Trullo Genna

Trullo Genna is a beautiful Italian holiday villa set within rolling olive groves of Puglia. We were asked to design a website to help increase the occupancy rate.

Search Engine Optimisation - SEO

Our first step was to undertake some "keyword research". This SEO technique helped us gain an understanding of how best to pitch the website in this competitive marketplace. We used the results of this research to inform the content and structure of the website.

Photography

A trip to Italy allowed us to photograph the villa (or Trullo) and its surroundings. As soon as we arrived we were struck by what a magical place it is. We knew we had to capture this magic and that photography would be critical to the design & success of the website.

With the luxury of time, we were able to capture some highly technical shots using a combination of panoramic techniques, intricate flash lighting and post-production compositing. The twilight photograph seen below is in fact a composite of about 80 individually flash-lit photographs! This might seem excessive, but a unique & special place requires images to do it justice.

Typography

Typography was an important consideration within the website design. After trying many font combinations we settled on a pairing of the beautiful Gotham and Sentinel from the Hoefler & Co. type foundry. Different weights emphasise important phrases within the copy, aiding legibility. We also used tricks borrowed from printed media such as enlarging the first letters of paragraphs and picking out bullet points in a different colour. It's these small attentions to detail that make all the difference.

If anyone fancies an wonderful break in the authentically rural Southern Italy we'd highly recommend Trullo Genna!
